Happy 10th Birthday to Cineplex‘s “Tommy Texter”. On August 4th,2009 I had a script sent to me by Darren Solomon. Little did I know at the time that the finished product would become a pre-show staple in movie theatres across Canada. When people ask me ‘where would I have heard you?’, this is my go to – my calling card. I’ve done a lot of #voiceover projects in my career, but THIS one (and the other 3 in the Theatre Etiquette Series) will always hold a special place. My kids have grown up reciting these spots. I still have friends who text me screenshots of this when they’re at the movies (Tommy Park LOL!). Heck I still get a kick out of reciting it when I’m at a movie. It’s got an entry in the Urban Dictionary and it’s been parodied on youtube. Tommy Texter has become this generation’s answer to the intermission rope-jumping hotdogs. (at least here in Canada🇨🇦🤣)
Huge thanks to Darren Solomon for gifting me this iconic piece of creative all those years ago, Brad Goodspeed (who was the brilliant animator of these), Howard Cogan for being the inspiration (yep the original directions to me were, ‘sound like the Jack FM guy’ HAHA!) and of course my Cineplex secret-movie-brother-from-another-mother, Executive Producer Rob Lazar.
